India qualified for the final round in Sydney

FIP World Polo Championship Playoffs Zone E

The event was held in Tehran, which is the capital city of Iran with a population of over 15 million people. 

The "Horse Draw and Practice Chukkas" took place at Kanoon Chogan a private club located in Karaj which is a city of about 2 million people, 40 km west of Tehran.  The club owner provided over 60% of the tournament horses.  The remainder were provided by Tehran's other three clubs: Qasr Firoozeh, Noroozabad, and Army Ground Forces Polo Club.  Kanoon Chogan has two grass fields and a grass stick and ball field.  The club contains about 170 horses.  That tally includes around 40 pure-blood Arabians and also the owners own thoroughbred type polo horses.
 
The first and third days of the games were held at the Qasr Firoozeh Polo Club, which is located in East Tehran.  The club itself is quite old and is registered as an Iranian National Heritage location.  The club has two regulation grass fields and stabling for close to 300 horses.  The club was part of a historic palace from the Qajar Dynasty.  Qasr Firoozeh means "turquoise palace" in Persian and is also the name of that particular district in Tehran. 
 
The second day of the games were held at the Army Ground Forces Polo Club.  The club is located near a residential district in North Tehran.  The club itself is built on a steep slope and has a regulation grass field that was cut into the mountains.  The club possesses a view of all of Tehran.

Victory against South Africa

The Iranian team won its third and final match against South Africa during the qualification games for the Sydney Polo World cup.
According to the public relations of the Polo federation, the Iranian and South African teams met today (Friday) from 17 at the field of Ghasr-e-Firouzeh Polo club and Iran eventually won with a score of 6 to 4.
Both teams had forfeited their two previous games against the powerful teams of India and Pakistan and had therefore no chance of going to the Australia World cup.
Our team experienced their first appearance in international tournaments, despite showing an acceptable performance during their two previous matches, were only defeated due to low experience and their opponents’ power.
Students of Pablo Sirvent, the Argentinian coach of our national Polo team, won the first chukka with a score of 2.5 to 0 and the second chukka with a score of 4.5 to 2.
Each Polo game consists of four 7-minutes chukka and the team who achieves the highest score is the winner.
In the third chukka, the South African team was attempting to compensate the result which our team did not allow and won this chukka 6.5 to 3.
During the fourth and final chukka, the Iranian team pursued its low error rate and was able to win against the powerful South African team 6 to 4.
The Iranian team’s players were: Amirreza Behbodi, Mohammadreza Behbodi, Esmaeil Emami, Mahdi Poursaadati, Mohammadghoil Zolfaghari, Bahador Babaei, and Seyed Hasan Boori.
Mohammadreza Behodi’s horse was nominated the best horse of this match.
The teams of India and Pakistan will face each other in a sensitive match at 18:40.
The teams of India, Pakistan, Iran and South Africa, faced each other from July 3rd, in an attempt to determine the team that will be participating in the Australian Polo World Cup.
The teams of Argentina with 4, Brazil with 3, Chile with 2, and United States with 1 are the most honorable teams during the 10 previous World Cups.

Iranian Polo team admits defeat

Our national Polo team admitted defeat against Pakistan during their second match in the qualification rounds for the Australian Polo World cup.
According to the Polo federation’s public relations, the Iranian national Polo team faced Pakistan from 17:00 today (Wednesday) on the Zoljanah field and admitted defeat with a score of 7 to 9.
Students of Pablo Servent, the Argentinian coach of our national Polo team who is experiencing his first presence in international games, were trying hard to win. Despite their effort, they lost the first chukka 4 to 5.
Polo consists of four 7-minutes chukka and the team who achieves the highest score is the winner.
In the second chukka, our team was able to take over the field and game and won with a score of 6 to 5.
The two teams faced an intense rivalry during the third chukka but our team eventually lost 6-8.
During the last chukka, Amirreza Behboudi had a good opportunity to score but failed and the Pakistani team won this chukka 9-7.
Our team lost to Pakistan but it is worth mentioning that most Pakistani players had a long history of World Cup appearances.
The Iranian team’s players were: Amirreza Behbodi, Mohammadreza Behbodi, Esmaeil Emami, Mahdi PourSaadati, Mohammadgholi Zolfaghari, Bahador Babaei, and Seyed Hassn Bouri.
Our team had lost during its first match against India with a score of 10-8.
For the second match, India faced South Africa from 18:30, during which India won with a score of 6 to 5.
Iran, India, Pakistan and South Africa from the E region face each other in a series of matches until Friday, 7th July, in order to determine which team would eventually take part in the 11th Polo World Cup, Sydney.
Our national Polo team will face South Africa for its last game on Friday, 7th July at 17:00, at the Ghasr-e-Firouzeh polo club and for the second match, India will face Pakistan.
All matches between Iran and other teams are broadcasted live from Channel 3 and other games from the Varzesh Channel.

President of the federation of international polo (FIP) arrived in Tehran

The president of the FIP arrived in Tehran in order to attend the Qualification games of the world polo championship of E region (Africa and West Asia).

Public relations of the Polo federation reported that Nicholas Denvers, the English president of the international Polo federation arrived in Tehran on Monday, July 5th in order to attend in the qualification games of the 11th International Polo World cup of the E region (Africa and West Asia) which include Iran, South Africa, India and Pakistan. Mr. Denvers will stay in Tehran until the end of the games and the closing ceremony starting at 17:00 this Friday.
The qualification games of the group started on Monday. On the first day of the matches Iran was defeated by India with a score of 10-8 and Pakistan defeated South Africa 8 to 6.
The Iranian national Polo team will face Pakistan on Wednesday and South Africa on Friday

First day of the Polo Qualifiers ended with the superiority of the teams of Pakistan and India.

The first day of the 11th world Polo Qualifiers, Zone E (Africa and West Asia) ended with the supremacy of the Indian and Pakistani team.
According to the public relations of the Polo Federation, the Iranian national Polo team failed during the first round of the qualifying games which determine the ascend to the World Polo Cup in Australia, and lost the game with a score of 8-10 against the Indian team.
The Iranian and Indian national Polo teams faced each other at 17:00 today (Monday) at the Ghasr-e-Firouzeh Polo club, and our country’s national players, who experienced their first appearance in an international competition, exhibited an impressive performance.
Students of Pablo Servent, our national Polo team’s Argentinian coach, played a good game during the first chukka and won the match with the score 5-4. In the second chukka, the Hindi horses’ running along the good game of the players led the Indian team to end the second chukka with a score of 6-5.
Our red-wearing national players were trying to achieve a draw against the blue-wearing Indian team during the third chukka but they eventually settled for a score of 8-6.
At the beginning of the 4th chukka, Amirreza Behbodi fell to the ground while preventing the Indian strikers’ attack, but he returned to the game after a few minutes. Despite their efforts and good defense, our Polo players ultimately accepted defeat with a score of 8-10 at the end of the fourth chukka.
Our national Polo team will face Pakistan in their second match on Wednesday and will appear against South Africa for their final match on Friday. Only one team from this group will qualify for the Australia World Cup.
Players present during this game were: Amirreza Behbodi, Mohammadreza Behbodi, Esmaeil Emami, Mahdi PourSaadati.
Authorities of polo federation of I.R.I were also present at the competition.
Many Polo admirers and enthusiasts were also present and the game was broadcasted live from Channel 3.
In the second match, Pakistan faced South Africa, in which the Pakistani team won with a score of 8-6. This match was also broadcasted live from the Sports Channel.

A passionate presence of officials and people at the opening ceremony of the 11th World Polo Championship Qualification tournaments of the E region (Africa and West Asia)

According to the public relations of the Polo Federation, the opening ceremony of the 11th World Polo Qualifiers for the E region (Africa and West Asia) was held with the presence of officials including Dr. Mohammadreza Davarzani, Deputy of the Ministry of Sports and Youth; Dr. Fariba Mohammadian; Alejandro Hamilton Taylor, Secretary and representative of the World Polo Federation; Dr. Golnar Vakilgilani, President of Polo Federation; Mr. Mohammad Banihassan, Subway Cultural Deputy; Hamzeh Ilkhanizadeh, Polo expert and chairman of the hosting committee; international Polo judges; representatives and military officials; the national Polo teams of India, Pakistan, South Africa and Iran; and multitudes of Polo enthusiasts at the Ghasr-e-Firouzeh Polo club.
At the ceremony, first the Iranian national anthem was performed live by Army musicians, then the hoisting of the flags took place, followed by speeches given by Hamzeh Ilkhanizadeh, secretary-general of the World Polo federation, Polo veteran and Chairman of the hosting committee; and Dr. Mohammadreza Davarzani, Deputy of the ministry of Sports and youth; and Dr. Golnar Vakilgilani. During these speeches, the police horsemen had performance with much order and authority. Then the music of all Iranian ethnic groups was performed live and at the end of the ceremony, a symbolic parade of Polo-playing children carrying the flag of our country was performed in front of the audience place.

Our national Polo team will meet with its adversaries on Monday

Starting this Monday, July 3rd, at 18:00, the Iranian national team will meet with India, on Wednesday, July 5th, at 17:00 with Pakistan and finally on Friday, July 7th, at 18:00 with South Africa.
Based on reports from the Iranian Polo federation, the qualification rounds for the 11th World Polo Championship Zone E (Africa and West Asia) will take place with the participation of Iran, India, Pakistan and South Africa from Monday.

The schedule for the competitions is as follows:
Friday, 30 June at 17:00 -> Opening Ceremony in the Ghasr-e-Firouzeh Polo Club

Monday, 3 July -> First day of the tournaments, at 17:00 Iran vs. India and at 18:30 Pakistan vs. South Africa . Teams will meet at the Ghasr-e-Firouzeh Polo Club.

Wednesday, 5 July -> Second day of the tournaments, at 17:00 Iran vs. Pakistan and at 18:30 South Africa vs. India.

Friday, 7 July -> Third and last day of the tournaments, at 17:00 South Africa vs. Iran and at 18:30 Pakistan vs. India . At the end of the competition, awards will be presented and the closing ceremony will be held.

Cultural programs surrounding this event include live performance of local Iranian music, reading of the Shahnameh and handicraft booths.

Eight polo players have been invited to the national team

Pablo Servent has invited 8 polo players to the national team camp for the World Cup qualifiers exercises.

According to the public relations of the polo federation Mr. Servent, who along with his brother is getting the team ready for the World Cup competitions in Australia, has invited eight top-level polo players to the national team camp.

The invited players are: Amir Reza Behbodi, Mohammadreza Behbodi, Mahdi Poursaadati, Esmaeel Emami, Reza Behbodi, Mohammad Gholi Zolfaghari, Seyyed Hassan Bouri, Bahador Babayee.

Group E World Cup polo tournament will be held in Tehran, Iran in July this year and Iran is grouped with teams from India, Pakistan and South Africa.

Iran’s national polo team has started its training

Iran’s national polo team has started its training sessions in Alborz Province’s Polo Club.
According to the Public Relations section of Iran’s Polo Federation, the national team members started their exercises under the supervision of the Argentinean coach of the team on Monday 29th of May.
In today’s exercises 5 polo players took part and others will join in soon.
The exercises take place under the supervision of Pablo Server, the coach of the national team.
it should be noted that in order to elevate the level of the national team skills we are joined by three top-level polo coaches from Argentina.

GOUY-O-CHOGAN was unveiled (introduced) with the presence of Dr. Vakil Gilani

“GOUY-O-CHOGAN (the ball and the polo stick) IN HISTORY, CULTURE AND ART OF IRAN” book was unveiled (introduced) with the presence of Dr. Vakil Gilani in the International Book Fair.
According to the Public Relations of Iran’s polo federation, on Friday 12th of May, the book was introduced in the International Book Fair with the presence of Dr. Golnar Vakil Gilani the president of the federation; Yashar Bigham Secretary of the federation; Mehdi Zolfaghari the country’s highprofile polo player; Mohammad Ali Bigham Head of the Alborz Polo Team, Reza Ebrahiminejad the author of the book and a number of enthusiasts.

During the ceremony Mr. Hamzeh Ilkhani was also honored and thanked for his endeavors in editing, proofreading and publishing this exquisite book!
